Björk- Drawing Restraint 9

as you know...Bjork is not an asian artist (although she kinda looks kinda asian XD) but the album pretty damn is!
Beautifully orchestrated it also features the spooooky japanese instrument Sho played by Mayumi Miyata ,a Noh score and vocal performance by Shiro Nomura.
Interestingly , her vocals feature only on 3 tracks: "Bath", "Storm", and "Cetacea".
The album is actually an OST for Bjork's husband ,the visual artist Matthew Barney "film" Drawing Restraint (but without the 9 :P)
you can read more on the movie on wiki or check out the official page.

Ryou Kunihiko- Saiunkoku Monogatari Original Soundtrack 3

Right!
This one is for all you anime lovers out there, and esp. those who love Saiunkoku or traditional chinese music :)
In my humble opinion, it's the best ost of all three that have been released, because this one is the most traditional of all with sad melodies, happy and sometimes a modern one hops in .

Junoon- Azadi (1997)

This band hails from today very troubled Pakistan and they are the representatives of the sufi-rock. And theyhave been dubbed as "U2 Of Pakistan" but personally I think there's more to that :) . Probably most of you who read this are not familiar with the term "Sufi" so I'll make it easier for you as much as I can : according to Wiki, Sufism is a inner, mystical dimension of Islam, and according to my understandings is heavily connected with music, because the sufis believe that through music they can achieve God (that's why its so universal!!!) . The most famous example of sufism are the whirling dervishes who through the whirling accomplish the remembrance of God ( dhikr) which is an important aspect of sufism

Therefore, despite the obstacles and in some parts of islamic world, even baning, throughout the centuries Sufism managed to withold (especially!) in music , so hence the term Sufi Rock.To cut the story short, so far, Junoon are the only sufi-rock band I know, so I'm not entirely familiar with that genre of music, but no worry, the music is very catchy and has some superb rythms and melodys, especially cause of the heavy use of tabla.
Unfortunately, this is the only material I have from this band. If anyone knows where I could find more please contact me ^^

Carsick Cars- You Can Listen You Can Talk

One of the best chinese rock bands, described on rock in china as New School Rock, to me they sound more like a post-punk revival band, but an original one,but still reminiscent of Joy Division and Sonic Youth and the impression they leave on you is like you flew with that nice guitar sound, especially on A Friend From Big City :).
So anyway this is their latest album released not so long ago, on June 29th 2009 and its already awarded as one of the Top 10 albums of the summer at the Chinese Music Media Awards.
It's a must listen for all alternative music fans, and the fact they're a chinese band only makes it better ^^
Enjoy!

Re-TROS cut off

Re-TROS have been gigging around Beijing for the last two years under the name “Re-establishing the Rights of Statues” before releasing this debut album on the Badhead label – and simplifying their name in the process, thank god. Indeed, simplification best describes their brand of post-punk, reminiscent of late 1970s David Bowie with elements of Joy Division. On Cut-Off!, this neo-punk trio delivers six tracks running thirty minutes: tight, straightforward guitar riffs, un-fussy base lines and solid drumming. Minimalism, however doesn’t necessarily mean minimal quality. Indeed, the band’s meticulously-polished sound owes a lot to Brian Eno. While on a visit to China in October last year, the legendary producer of David Bowie, U2 and Depeche Mode added color and texture to the Beijing band’s sound and even mixed in some keyboard on a couple of tracks. Nor, for that matter, are the English lyrics simple. Indeed, each song tells a different story. “If the Monkey Becomes the King” refers to the famous novel Journey to the West while alluding to the stupidity of mankind; while “TV Show” offers a somewhat bitter challenge to authority. All said, this release will appeal to the band’s already large following (built on the back of their stunning live performances) but its minimal running time will leave them craving for more.

tracklist:
  1. Die in 1977
  2. A death-bed song
  3. Boys in cage
  4. If the monkey becomes (to be) the king
  5. TV show (hang the police)
  6. Laugh from the time

my little airport- the ok thing to do on a sunday afternoon is to toddle in the ZOO

Another nice (and cute) chinese band, but actually from Hong Kong so it's basically a Cantonese band :P
Very nice and cute music with matching lyrics :) (some are on Chinese, some on English),and I like the lo-fi sound.
My good friend, who is Cantonese by the way, said that it was the first time in his life he heard a good cantonese song :) But poor thing prolly only listened to Cantopop while he was little,so it had its effect later :(
So in one word: C U T E (きゃああああ ^o^)
